Checking BOA payment status
Bank of Abyssinia publishes transaction data at https://cs.bankofabyssinia.com/api/onlineSlip/getDetails/?id={REFERENCE}{LAST_5_DIGITS}. When someone sends you a payment via BOA, a receipt is generated at this URL. cheki fetches the receipt, parses it, and tells you whether the payment is real, who sent it, and for how much. This takes 2 to 10 seconds.
What information you need
To check a BOA payment, ask the sender for the transaction reference number from their receipt and make sure you know the last 5 digits of your receiving account. Both pieces of information are required by the endpoint.
- Transaction reference (e.g. AB12345678)
- Last 5 digits of your account number
Common BOA payment verification scenarios
BOA payment verification is used by merchants, delivery services, and businesses across Ethiopia. Common scenarios include confirming a customer has actually paid before releasing goods, verifying a delivery payment before handing over a package, and reconciling end-of-day bank transfers.
- Merchants verifying BOA transfers at checkout
- Businesses reconciling BOA deposits
- Verifying inter-bank transfers (BOA to CBE, Dashen, etc.) via QR code decryption
- Apps integrating BOA payment verification with QR code support
Frequently asked questions
How do I check if a BOA payment was successful?
Select Bank of Abyssinia on cheki, enter the transaction reference number and the last 5 digits of the receiving account, and click Verify. If the payment exists, cheki shows you the sender name, receiver name, amount, and date. If it doesn't exist, the payment was not completed or the receipt is fake.
Can I check a BOA payment without the receipt?
You need the transaction reference number and the last 5 digits of the receiving account. Both are shown on the receipt. Without them, there is no way to look up a BOA transaction through public endpoints.
Is checking BOA payments free?
Yes. cheki checks BOA payments for free with no limits. check.et charges 499 ETB/month after 200 checks for the same data. cheki uses the same public BOA endpoint.
